Chris and Jennifer Sheafer
                                 ~ Married October 28, 1994

We met on Good Friday, 1994. My very good friend and kindred spirit, Rhonda Ledbetter, attended the same church as Chris. That Easter season, he wanted to remind the world just exactly what Good Friday is all about. He planned to dress up like Jesus, crown of thorns and all, and drag a huge cross down Santa Fe, the main street of our city. Rhonda asked me if I would like to join her in  following him, to pray and sings songs of worship. I said yes.

He had already begun his walk when we joined him. He didn’t know that he had any followers. I was amazed at this guy. He was so focused and determined. He was barefoot, staggering down the sidewalk, intent on portraying Jesus to the people. He walked through glass and crossed busy intersections without a pause. I was in awe. I loved the Lord, but could I ever be so strong for Him as this man was?

At the end of the walk, Chris loaded his cross into the back of his truck. I walked over to him and said, “I just want to look at you.”

This was the first meeting I had with my husband.

In July we had our first date. I was a single Mom and my son, Trevor, was taken by Chris that very day. InOctober we were married. Life was busy and in the first six years of our marriage, we had five babies; three boys and twin girls.

I loved Chris when I married him, but there was a moment, early in our marriage that I will never forget. I was pregnant with our first baby and we were watching T.V. Chris was sitting on the futon and I was laying with my head in his lap. I looked up at him and I loved him, more than I ever knew one person could love another.  “I am so in love with you,” I said. That day, our relationship became a true union of oneness and friendship.

We still have our struggles, but God is always faithful to see us through.

I look forward to the rest of my life spent with my husband, my best friend, Chris Sheafer.
